UNITED KINGDOM SHRINE CLUB
All Shriners are Masons, but not all Masons are Shriners. Shriners International is a spin-off from Freemasonry, the oldest, largest and most widely known fraternity in the world. Freemasonry dates back hundreds of years to when stonemasons and other craftsmen gathered after work in shelter houses, or lodges. Over time, the members organized into Masonic guilds and the tools of their trade – the square and compass – became the symbol of their brotherhood.
Appeal for Volunteers, especially Music Lovers
For many years in the States, Shriners and their masonic and non masonic friends have teamed up with well known musicians in a project to raise thousands of pounds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Just prior to the pandemic the project was extended to the UK and Europe, there is not a lot of work involved, but you get to see concerts for free. As and when the opportunity arises I will provide further details.
Dartford Shrine Club
The Dartford Shrine Club was formed in 2007 after discussion between Nobles John Cornish and Mick Gosling who were members of the London Shrine Club and wanted to start a club in the South East.
Shriners History
On September 26, 1872, the first Temple in the United States was organized in the New York Masonic Hall. Charles T. McClenachan and Dr. Fleming had completed the ritual and propsed that the first temple be named Mecca. The original 13 Masons were made Charter Members of the Meccas Temple.
